President John Dramani Mahama has announced that Ghana will grant visa-free entry to all African nationals beginning May 25, 2026, in a move aimed at deepening regional integration and boosting economic activity across the continent.

The announcement was made during an official visit by Zimbabwean leader Emmerson Mnangagwa, where both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening diplomatic and economic ties.

According to President Mahama, the new policy will coincide with the celebration of Africa Day and reflects Ghana’s ambition to position itself as a central hub for Pan-African cooperation. He emphasized that the initiative is expected to make travel easier for Africans, while encouraging tourism, trade, and cultural exchange.

Under the new arrangement, African travelers will be able to obtain electronic visas at no cost through a digital platform that the government plans to launch in the coming weeks. The e-visa system is intended to streamline entry procedures and improve overall travel efficiency.

President Mahama also noted that Ghana already maintains a visa-free travel arrangement with Zimbabwe, allowing citizens of both nations to move freely without prior visa requirements. He expressed optimism that similar agreements could be expanded to benefit Ghanaian passport holders across more countries.

In addition to the visa policy announcement, Ghana and Zimbabwe signed ten memoranda of understanding covering various sectors, signaling a renewed push to enhance bilateral cooperation.
