A fresh public feud has erupted between Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene and broadcaster Paul Adom-Otchere, intensifying an already tense exchange that has captured attention across social media.

The latest clash follows an earlier controversy involving Dr Amoakohene, who was seen in a viral video playfully teasing former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during an event at the Asokwa Interchange. The footage sparked mixed reactions online and prompted sharp criticism from Adom-Otchere on his Good Evening Ghana programme, where he questioned the minister’s conduct and academic credentials, particularly his doctoral qualifications.

In a swift response during a live online session, Dr Amoakohene fired back, challenging the broadcaster to publicly present his own academic records. He accused Adom-Otchere of making unsubstantiated claims and urged him to “do his due diligence” before making public assertions.

“Uncle ‘Christmas tree,’ if you are going to make claims about me, at least ensure what you are saying is true,” the minister said. He went on to defend his academic background, stating that he is a qualified medical doctor with a doctorate in Medical Laboratory Sciences, and has also pursued Business Administration.

Dr Amoakohene further escalated the exchange by questioning Adom-Otchere’s legal education, calling on him to explain why he allegedly failed to complete law school.

“This is an academic discussion,” he noted. “You should show Ghanaians your law certificate and prove that you completed law school.”

The minister also criticised the broadcaster’s professional style, describing his journalism as substandard and pointing to what he called inconsistencies in his work. He argued that Adom-Otchere’s focus on him during an entire segment of his show contradicted claims that he was not worth attention.

The ongoing back-and-forth has sparked debate among the public, with many weighing in on issues of professionalism, accountability, and the role of media figures in scrutinising public officials.

As the feud continues to unfold, it remains to be seen whether either party will provide further evidence to support their claims or de-escalate tensions.
