The Ghana Navy marked a historic moment with a twin ceremony that combined the consecration and presentation of colors to the Western Naval Command and the commissioning of the Ghana Navy Ship (GNS) Pru.

Deputy Minister of Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, who served as Guest of Honour, lauded the event, noting the impressive precision and discipline of the parade, which reflected the professionalism of Ghana’s Armed Forces.

He also acknowledged the role of President John Dramani Mahama, Commander‑in‑Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, for granting the charter for GNS Pru. “His leadership and vision continue to inspire the modernization and strengthening of our Armed Forces,” Genfi said.

The ceremony was attended by top military officials, including the Chief of the Defence Staff, Lieutenant General William Agyapong; the Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Livinus Bessing; and the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Eric Agyen‑Frimpong. Traditional leadership was represented by the Omanhene of the Essikado Traditional Area, Nana Kobina Nketsia V.

GNS Pru is expected to enhance the Navy’s capacity to secure Ghana’s maritime domain, particularly in safeguarding oil production platforms and other strategic national assets.

Deputy Minister Genfi emphasized that the commissioning aligns with the national agenda of #ResettingGhana, underscoring the government’s commitment to modernizing the Armed Forces and maintaining a secure, resilient, and well‑defended maritime frontier.
