The High Court in Accra has ruled in favour of broadcast journalist Solomon David Aboagye, popularly known as Kwasi Aboagye, in a defamation case against dancehall musician Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., known in showbiz as Shatta Wale, and social media commentator Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa, also called Afia Schwarzenegger.

The court granted an application for default judgment after the defendants failed to enter appearance or file a defence despite being duly served.

The case arose from a TikTok live broadcast on May 6, 2024, during which the defendants allegedly made defamatory statements about the veteran entertainment journalist.

During the live session, Shatta Wale and Afia Schwarzenegger were accused of making comments suggesting that Kwasi Aboagye was involved in criminal activity, was impotent and had been unfaithful, claims his lawyers describe as false, malicious and highly damaging to his reputation.

The comments were subsequently circulated across multiple social media platforms, generating widespread public reactions and negative commentary.

Through his lawyer, Samson Lardy Anyenini, Kwasi Aboagye filed a Writ of Summons and Statement of Claim in late 2024, seeking declarations of defamation, public retractions, apologies and damages totaling GH¢8 million.

Court documents indicate that attempts at personal service on the defendants were unsuccessful, leading the court in October 2024 to authorise substituted service using various methods. Despite confirmation that service had been effected, the defendants failed to respond to the suit.

As a result, the High Court upheld the plaintiff’s application for default judgment.

On October 15, 2025, the court granted Relief 6 of the plaintiff’s claims — a perpetual injunction restraining Shatta Wale and Afia Schwarzenegger from publishing or repeating defamatory statements against Solomon David Aboagye (Kwasi Aboagye).

The case now proceeds to the damages phase, where the plaintiff is expected to establish the extent of reputational harm suffered in support of his GH¢8 million compensation claim.
