Ghana’s Vice President, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has praised the Ghanaian community in Angola for what she described as an “outstanding reputation built on discipline, integrity, and commitment.” She made the remarks during an engagement with the community after participating in the AU–EU Summit in Luanda.

Accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Political Advisor Hon. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, the Vice President was hosted by Ghana’s Ambassador to Angola, H.E. Mavis Esi Kusorgbor. The Ambassador reported that since assuming office, she has recorded no single case of misconduct involving Ghanaians in Angola—an achievement the Vice President described as exemplary.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang used the occasion to remind Ghanaians living in Angola of the government’s appreciation for their contributions to the nation’s progress. She encouraged them to register with the Embassy to ensure proper access to services and information.

She also reflected on the historical bonds between the two countries, rooted in Ghana’s early support for African liberation efforts under Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. This legacy, she noted, remains a guiding light for Ghana’s engagement on the continent.

Touching on domestic policy, the Vice President reiterated government’s commitment to inclusive development that uplifts vulnerable groups—particularly women and children. She outlined a renewed push for food self-sufficiency, leveraging Ghana’s natural advantages as a tropical country, and new strategies aimed at achieving food sovereignty.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang further highlighted plans to add value to natural resources rather than exporting them raw, arguing that this will generate jobs, strengthen communities, and ensure that national growth benefits all Ghanaians, whether home or abroad.
