With excitement building ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Canada’s High Commissioner to Ghana, HE Myrian Montrat, is calling on Ghanaian supporters to begin their visa applications early — and to steer clear of middlemen.

In an interview on Diplomacy Unscripted, the High Commissioner revealed that the three host countries, Canada, the US and Mexico, are collaborating to ensure consistency in handling visitors during the tournament. Still, the sheer volume of expected applications means early preparation is crucial.

She issued a strong warning about so-called “visa facilitators,” saying many will attempt to deceive applicants by offering shortcuts. “There will be lots of third-party organizations pretending they can make it easier or faster or guarantee a visa. That is simply not true,” she emphasized. “Go directly to the source to avoid scammers.”

HE Montrat assured that the Canadian embassy is already putting systems in place to efficiently manage the expected spike in applications. She also appealed to those who will eventually receive visas to honour the conditions attached to them. According to her, respecting immigration rules is essential for maintaining trust between Ghana and Canada.

As Ghanaian fans prepare to support their team on the world stage, the High Commissioner’s message is clear: apply early, avoid middlemen, and follow the rules.
