Outrageous bail conditions for Akufo-Addo appointees will come back to haunt you—Atubiga to NDC

Former Member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Stephen Atubiga has urged the Chief Justice to be wary of the bail conditions for appointees of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

According to him, the judiciary is setting a bad precedent, and the earlier it is rectified, the better for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

To him, it may come back to bite the NDC harder when power changes hands in the country and the earlier they realize this, the better.

Making this position known in a post shared via social media he said “The NDC should be concerned about the substantial bail and surety amounts granted to former NPP appointees, specifically GH 800 million, 100 million, and 50 million, which raises questions about the seriousness of our country’s approach to accountability.

Those providing such surety should be investigated, including their up-to-date tax payments. It would be more prudent for the courts to keep them in custody until their trial is completed, rather than imposing these hefty bail conditions. Any appointee who underestimates the severity of this situation should be prepared for the consequences. Only the sitting president would be exempt from accountability when the situation reverses. All appointees are potential candidates for corruption, theft, or misappropriation of government funds. I have expressed my opinion, and I believe the bail conditions set a bad precedent that may have unfavorable repercussions for all of us in the future.

I urge the Chief Justice to take necessary action to address this issue, as the actions of the judges may be perceived as misconduct

Love you”.

His comment comes on the back of the stringent bail conditions for some persons under investigation from the previous government.
