The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has paid a courtesy call on the newly enstooled Asantehemaa, Nana Yaa Akyaa II, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

The visit, which took place on Thursday, September 17, 2026, was to congratulate Nana Yaa Akyaa II on her enstoolment and wish her well as she assumes her responsibilities as the Asantehemaa.

During the visit, Dr Bawumia also sought the blessings of the Asantehemaa towards his vision for the presidency.

In a message following the visit, Dr Bawumia congratulated Nana Yaa Akyaa II on her ascension to the stool and wished her “divine strength, wisdom and good health” as she serves Asanteman.

“May her reign be long and fruitful,” he added.

Dr Bawumia was accompanied by a delegation of more than 30 Members of Parliament, NPP executives, founding members, former Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), and party supporters.

Among those who accompanied him were former Suame MP Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Bantama MP Francis Asenso-Boakye, Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei and Second Deputy Speaker Andrew Amoako Asiama.

The visit comes as Nana Yaa Akyaa II begins her tenure as Asantehemaa, a prominent traditional leadership position within the Asante Kingdom.

Dr Bawumia’s courtesy call provided an opportunity for him to formally extend his congratulations and best wishes to the newly enstooled queen mother while seeking her goodwill and blessings for his political aspirations.
