NDC Condemns Alleged Vote Buying in Ayawaso East Parliamentary Primary, Launches Probe

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has condemned reports of inducement and vote buying during its parliamentary primary in the Ayawaso East Constituency, describing the alleged actions as a violation of the party’s core values.

The condemnation follows reports that delegates at the primary received 32-inch television sets from the campaign team of one of the aspirants, Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria. The campaign team was also reported to have distributed free boiled eggs, an exercise that led to moments of jostling among voters at the venue.

In an official statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, on Saturday, February 7, 2026, the NDC said its national executives had been alerted to widespread allegations that some aspirants engaged in bribery during the election process.

According to the statement, such conduct runs counter to the NDC’s principles and undermines the party’s ongoing reset agenda aimed at strengthening internal democracy and public trust.

The party announced the immediate commencement of a full-scale investigation into the allegations and pledged to take swift disciplinary action against any individual found culpable.

The statement further warned that any future violations of the party’s rules could attract severe sanctions, including the possible cancellation of affected elections.
