President John Mahama has urged world leaders to move beyond outdated geopolitical blocs and rivalries, advocating for alliances grounded in solidarity, shared responsibility, and collective progress.

Speaking at the World Governments Summit 2026 in Dubai, President Mahama emphasized that today’s global challenges—ranging from climate change and food insecurity to terrorism and technological disruption—cannot be addressed through unilateral action. “These challenges do not respect borders and cannot be solved by unilateral action,” he said.

The President highlighted that traditional alliances, often born out of military or economic competition, are no longer sufficient in an era of deep global interconnectedness. Instead, he called for partnerships that reflect the realities of the 21st century, including cooperative approaches to security, digital innovation, and sustainable development.

Africa, he said, must play a central role in shaping this new global order. With a young population, abundant resources, and growing innovation ecosystems, the continent is not just a stage for competition but a source of solutions and opportunities. Mahama also cited initiatives like the Accra Reset, aimed at transitioning Africa from aid dependence to trade- and investment-led growth.
