Deputy Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Patricia Appiagyei, has strongly denied claims that she received GH¢70,000 in connection with Parliament’s ministerial vetting process.

Mrs Appiagyei described as fake a purported memorandum that has been circulated and allegedly links her to the payment.

Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on Friday, September 4, 2026, the Asokwa MP said the document came as a complete surprise to her and insisted she had no prior knowledge of its existence.

According to her, she only became aware of the matter after the memo began circulating, explaining that she had not initially paid much attention to it due to other commitments.

“I don’t know anything about the memo. It was absolutely news to me,” she said.

The controversy centres on a purported memo dated September 2, 2026, reportedly addressed to the Minority Chief Whip and MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh. The document allegedly suggested that GH¢70,000 had been allocated to Mrs Appiagyei in relation to the work of Parliament’s Appointments Committee.

However, the Deputy Minority Leader has rejected the allegation and maintained that she neither received any such money nor held discussions with party leaders or any other person about payments connected to the vetting of ministerial nominees.

She said the claim was simply untrue.
“What I am telling you, actually, it’s fake news,” Mrs Appiagyei stressed.

She further questioned the origin and authenticity of the purported memo, saying she found the entire development strange and difficult to understand.

Mrs Appiagyei also explained that members involved in the vetting process were focused on their official responsibilities and did not have time for the activities being alleged in the document.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has begun a preliminary investigation into allegations surrounding the reported GH¢70,000 payment.

The probe is expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged transaction and the purported document that has triggered the controversy involving the Asokwa MP.
