Ejisu Assembly Members Give MCE Jerryne Asante One Week to Resign

Tensions have escalated at the Ejisu Municipal Assembly after elected Assembly Members issued a one-week ultimatum to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Jerryne Asante, demanding that she resign from office or risk being removed by President John Dramani Mahama.

The ultimatum follows a failed attempt by the Assembly Members to hold an emergency meeting aimed at considering a vote of no confidence against the MCE. The meeting could not proceed after officials of the Electoral Commission (EC), who were expected to supervise the process, were unavailable.

The situation was further complicated when the Assembly’s main auditorium, where the meeting was scheduled to take place, was found locked.

According to the Assembly Members, Estate Officers informed them that the keys to the facility had been taken away by the MCE’s personal aide, making it impossible for them to access the venue and carry out the planned proceedings.

The Assembly Members say their decision to pursue a vote of no confidence stems from what they describe as persistent administrative shortcomings under the leadership of Jerryne Asante. They argue that these challenges have affected the effective functioning of the Assembly and have resulted in a complete loss of confidence in her administration.

Speaking to journalists after the aborted meeting, the Assembly Member for the Kwamo Electoral Area, George Kuntu Blankson, announced the group’s resolution and called on the President to intervene if the MCE fails to step down voluntarily.

He said all 28 elected Assembly Members had unanimously agreed to give Jerryne Asante one week, beginning immediately, to tender her resignation in the interest of the municipality.

According to him, should she refuse to resign within the stipulated period, the Assembly Members will petition President John Dramani Mahama to remove her from office, insisting that the municipality requires new leadership to restore confidence and improve administration.

The development marks the latest chapter in the growing standoff between the Ejisu Municipal Chief Executive and members of the Assembly, with many observers expected to watch closely for the government’s next move.
