The Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Dr Bryan Acheampong, has called on former New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant Kennedy Agyapong to put aside internal disagreements and support efforts to strengthen unity within the party as it prepares for the 2028 general election.

His appeal follows recent remarks by the former Assin Central MP, who insisted he would not be intimidated or silenced by criticism from within the party. Mr Agyapong also warned that continued attempts to dismiss or challenge his claims could lead him to disclose further information about internal party matters.
“NPP should be careful with me, saying I am bitter. If they provoke me, I will spill the beans all over the place,” he cautioned.
In a statement issued on Friday, June 19, 2026, Dr Acheampong acknowledged the emotional toll that follows a contested presidential primary, noting that he had personally experienced similar disappointment after participating in the party’s January 2026 presidential primary.
“I speak to you today not as a bystander to our recent contest, but as one who stood in it,” he said, adding that he understood “the weight of disappointment that follows a hard-fought campaign and the depth of emotion invested by candidates and supporters alike.”
He stressed that the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 general election should serve as a turning point for reflection and rebuilding.
“Our party suffered a painful defeat in 2024. The single most important task before us between now and 2028 is to rebuild, to reunite, and to return to power,” he stated.
Dr Acheampong further expressed concern about recent comments attributed to Mr Agyapong, particularly warnings that he could take actions that may deepen divisions within the party.
While acknowledging Mr Agyapong’s long-standing contribution to the NPP, he urged him to channel his influence toward reconciliation rather than confrontation.
“Ken is a son of this party. A man whose energy, resources and loyalty over decades cannot be questioned,” he said. “It is for that very reason that I urge him, respectfully but firmly, to lower the temperature and to lend his considerable influence to the work of healing rather than division.”
He also appealed to supporters of both factions within the party to avoid actions that could worsen internal tensions.
“So, I appeal to Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, to his supporters, and to mine: let us lay down the weapons of internal warfare,” he said.
“Let us close ranks behind our flagbearer so that in 2028 we restore the New Patriotic Party to the service of the people of Ghana.”
Dr Acheampong emphasised that personal grievances must not be allowed to undermine the party’s broader goal of electoral recovery, insisting that unity remains the NPP’s strongest path back to power.
