NPP Condemns Kevin Taylor’s “Disrespectful” Remarks About Kufuor

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly condemned comments made by social commentator Kevin Ekow Taylor about former President John Agyekum Kufuor, describing the remarks as “unacceptable” and deeply disrespectful.

In a statement issued on Thursday, May 8, and signed by its Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, the party criticised Taylor for referring to the former president as “lazy” and suggesting he should “stand up and walk” during one of his political talk shows.

The NPP said such comments go beyond the bounds of political discourse and amount to an affront to a statesman who has served the country with distinction.

“This is not politics. This is desecration,” the statement emphasised, urging Ghanaians to regard Mr. Kufuor as a national figure whose legacy transcends partisan lines.

The party highlighted the former president’s contributions to Ghana’s development, noting his role in stabilising the economy, strengthening democratic governance, and enhancing the country’s international reputation during his tenure.

The NPP also called on the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and former President John Dramani Mahama to publicly dissociate themselves from the remarks. According to the party, the silence of the NDC on the matter raises concerns, citing what it described as Kevin Taylor’s “well-documented ties” to the opposition.

Furthermore, the NPP demanded an “unqualified and public apology” from Taylor, stressing the need to uphold Ghanaian cultural values and maintain civility in political discourse.

The statement concluded by noting that Ghanaians are closely watching how the NDC and Mr. Mahama respond to the issue, warning that attacks on respected national figures should not be tolerated.
