Former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Paul Tawiah Quaye, has died at the age of 73.

According to available information, the former head of the Ghana Police Service passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. Sources close to the family confirmed that he had been unwell for some time, which contributed to his absence from the public eye in recent years.

Paul Tawiah Quaye was born on May 6, 1953, and served as a distinguished figure in Ghana’s security services. He was appointed Inspector General of Police by the late President John Evans Atta Mills and led the Ghana Police Service from May 16, 2009, to February 5, 2013.

During his tenure, he was noted for his leadership and efforts to maintain law and order across the country.

The family is expected to announce details of his burial and funeral arrangements in the coming days.
