An Accra Circuit Court has remanded six individuals into custody over their alleged involvement in a high-value robbery involving 12.5 kilogrammes of gold worth 14,387,096 and an additional GH¢400,000 in cash.

The accused — Salim Muhammed (also known as Fariwata), Alhassan Illiasu (Arab Man), Hamza Agerego (Lambert or Nene Bowku), Abdul Samed Bonsiabu Larry (Touch), Fatao Ibrahim (Motorway), and Abubarkar Sadique (Fifty Cents) — have all pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery.

Presiding judge Dennis Eyram Benson rejected oral bail applications submitted by defence lawyers, ordering that all six be held in lawful custody pending further proceedings. The case has been adjourned to April 27, 2026, when the accused are expected to reappear before the court.

According to the prosecution, the robbery occurred in November 2024 during the transportation of a substantial amount of gold and cash from a jewellery shop to a bank. The suspects allegedly used a Toyota Highlander with registration number GN 7357-19 to carry out the attack.

Prosecutors further stated that the group fired multiple gunshots into the air to intimidate their victims during the operation. In the course of the robbery, one occupant of the vehicle transporting the valuables was shot in the left leg, raising concerns over the violent nature of the crime.

Meanwhile, a seventh suspect identified as Baba Chika, also known as Oil Money, remains at large and is currently being pursued by law enforcement authorities.

The incident has sparked public concern over rising violent robberies targeting high-value transactions, with many calling for stronger security measures to protect businesses and individuals handling large sums of money.
