President John Dramani Mahama has urged Ghanaians, particularly Muslims, to extend the values of Ramadan beyond the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations, describing the occasion as a call to sustained discipline, compassion and unity.

Speaking at the Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at the Independence Square in Accra on Friday, March 20, 2026, President Mahama emphasised that Eid should not signal the end of the spiritual journey observed during Ramadan, but rather its continuation.

“My brothers and sisters, Eid is not only a celebration, it is a call to continuity. Let us carry forward the spirit of Ramadan in how we treat one another, in how we serve our communities, in how we uphold justice and fairness,” he stated.

The President encouraged citizens to remain guided by compassion for the vulnerable, kindness toward neighbours and integrity in their daily lives. He noted that the principles of sacrifice, humility and self-discipline cultivated during Ramadan must shape conduct beyond the fasting period.

He also congratulated Muslims across Ghana and the world for successfully completing the holy month, describing Eid al-Fitr as a moment of gratitude to Allah.

“Today is a day of gratitude for the strength, patience and faith that carried us through Ramadan,” he added.

Touching on national cohesion, President Mahama highlighted Ghana’s reputation for peaceful coexistence, stressing that religious diversity remains a source of strength rather than division.

“Our diversity of faith and culture is not a weakness; it is our strength. Muslims and Christians celebrate each other’s holy days and coexist as one people. This harmony is a precious gift, and we must protect it,” he said.

He cautioned against extremism and intolerance, urging citizens to choose unity, dialogue and peace in their interactions.

On governance, the President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive development under the Reset Agenda, focusing on job creation, education, infrastructure, healthcare and support for underserved communities, including Zongo areas.

He stressed that achieving these goals requires collective effort and called on citizens to support the government’s development agenda.

“Government alone cannot achieve this. We need your partnership, your prayers and your continued commitment to national development,” he noted.
