Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has arrived in Latvia for a two-day official visit to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of Ghanaian student Nana Agyei Ahyia, a case he has described as distressing and unclear.

In a Facebook post announcing his arrival, Mr Ablakwa revealed that Latvia’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Her Excellency Baiba Braže, has assured him of full cooperation from Latvian authorities in the pursuit of truth and justice.

The Minister said the visit fulfils a promise he made to Ghanaians to personally follow up on the tragic death. He is leading a six-member delegation made up of senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as a forensic expert and a pathologist to support ongoing investigations.

The delegation is expected to hold key meetings on Monday with Latvia’s Ministries of Interior and Education, along with investigators directly handling the case. The mission, according to Mr Ablakwa, is to establish clarity on the circumstances of the student’s death and ensure accountability where necessary.
