NPP Begins Nationwide Voting to Elect Flagbearer for 2028 Elections

Voting has officially commenced across the country as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) begins the process of electing its flagbearer ahead of the 2028 general elections.

At the Jamestown Police Station in the Odododiodioo Constituency, voting is underway with 1,314 delegates expected to cast their ballots. The Ashiedu-Keteke District Electoral Officer, Eric Okyere, confirmed that all necessary preparations had been completed to ensure a smooth and transparent process.

In the Greater Accra Region, polls opened at several centres including the Light Academy in Adentan, the Social Welfare Centre in Madina, and the Korle Bu Police Station in Ablekuma South, where voting began at 7:18 a.m. Voting also started at the Maranatha University College at 7:20 a.m., with 1,465 delegates expected to participate.

At Odorkor Saleria Basic Schools 1 and 2 in Ablekuma North, 1,482 delegates are expected to vote across two polling stations. Polls also opened at exactly 7:15 a.m. at the New Gbawe 1 M/A Primary School in the Weija-Gbawe Constituency, while voting began at 7:00 a.m. in the Dome Kwabenya Constituency.

Meanwhile, in the Western Region, voting is ongoing at the Effia Constituency where 501 delegates are expected to vote. As of 7:16 a.m., nine delegates had already cast their ballots under heavy police presence.

In total, over 211,000 delegates are expected to vote at more than 300 polling centres nationwide. Five aspirants are contesting the race: former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Food and Agriculture Minister Dr Bryan Acheampong, former Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, and businessman Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
