The Minister of Transport, Mr Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has announced that Ghana’s long-awaited national airline is expected to begin operations within the next 12 months.

According to him, ongoing regulatory and documentation processes are progressing well and are expected to be completed in time to allow the airline to officially commence flights.

Mr Nikpe made the disclosure while speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the maiden arrival of Air Tanzania at the Kotoka International Airport on January 28.

He acknowledged that several previous efforts to revive a national carrier had been unsuccessful since the liquidation of Ghana Airways but stressed that the current administration is committed to delivering results.

“Since the collapse of Ghana Airways, many attempts have been made to re-establish a national airline, but none succeeded,” the minister stated. “This time, however, we are confident. A dedicated task force has been put in place under the leadership of President Mahama, and the work is progressing steadily.”

He expressed optimism that within a year, Ghanaians would witness the country’s own airline operating international routes.

Although details regarding ownership arrangements and aircraft acquisition were not disclosed, Mr Nikpe assured the public that preparations were advancing as planned.
