Burkina Faso’s national petroleum company, Sonabhy, has expressed appreciation to the Government of Ghana for its support in facilitating petroleum product supplies to Burkina Faso, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening commercial ties with the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR).

The assurance was given by Sonabhy’s Managing Director, Dr. Patrice Forogo, during a meeting with TOR’s Managing Director, Mr. Edmond Kombat, as part of a high-level delegation’s visit to Ghana to explore opportunities for deeper collaboration in the petroleum industry.
The delegation also paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Hon. Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, to thank President John Dramani Mahama and the Government of Ghana for supporting the movement, trading and supply of petroleum products to Burkina Faso through Ghana.
Dr. Forogo welcomed the growing relationship between Sonabhy and TOR, expressing confidence that closer cooperation would create opportunities for mutually beneficial petroleum transactions, service delivery and increased revenue for both institutions.
He further congratulated Mr. Kombat on his appointment as Managing Director of TOR and wished him success in carrying out the responsibilities entrusted to him by the President.
The engagement comes amid a significant increase in the share of Burkina Faso’s national petroleum consumption supplied through Ghana, which has risen from approximately 15 per cent to 40 per cent since President Mahama returned to office in 2024.
TOR’s Managing Director, Mr. Kombat, attributed the progress to the strong institutional relationship between the two companies, noting that sustained collaboration has helped facilitate petroleum trade and strengthen Ghana’s position as a strategic supply and trading hub in West Africa.
He indicated that the expanding partnership offers opportunities to deepen cross-border commerce, improve commercial relationships and explore new markets within the regional petroleum value chain.
Both institutions underscored the importance of closer cooperation among industry stakeholders in strengthening petroleum supply arrangements and supporting regional energy security.
The engagement also provided an opportunity for Sonabhy’s delegation to gain a better understanding of TOR’s operational capacity and infrastructure through a guided tour of selected refinery facilities.
The tour covered the utilities section, Tank Farm, New Safety Block, Quality Control unit and the F-61 Furnace at the Crude Distillation Unit (CDU).
The visit is expected to support continued dialogue between the two companies as they explore practical ways to expand petroleum trade, improve service delivery and build a stronger foundation for long-term commercial cooperation.
The growing partnership between TOR and Sonabhy reflects the broader potential for regional energy collaboration to strengthen trade links and improve petroleum supply networks across West Africa.
