Photos have surfaced online showing the Nevada Southern Detention Center in Pahrump, United States, where former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, is currently being held.

The medium-security facility operates under the United States Marshals Service and is used to house detainees awaiting court proceedings, including individuals facing extradition to other countries.

Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu was arrested by US Marshals on January 6, 2026, following an extradition request submitted by the Government of Ghana in July 2024.

Confirming the development, Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Emmanuel Victor Smith, in a statement dated January 15, 2026, said the former MASLOC boss has been in custody since her arrest.

“My information is that she was detained by US Marshals on January 6 and has since been kept at that detention centre. I am reliably informed that acting on an extradition request sent to the U.S. authorities sometime in July 2024, US Marshals arrested Tamakloe-Attionu and placed her in detention to await her day in court,” the Ambassador stated.

Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu was sentenced in April 2024 by an Accra High Court to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour after being found guilty on 78 counts, including causing financial loss to the state, stealing, conspiracy to steal, money laundering, and breaches of the Public Procurement Act.

The convictions stemmed from offences committed between 2013 and 2016, during which funds meant for MASLOC operations were misappropriated.

Her co-accused, former MASLOC Chief Operating Officer Daniel Axim, was also convicted and sentenced to five years’ imprisonment with hard labour.

The trial, which began in 2019, saw the prosecution call six witnesses to establish the state’s case. Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu was tried in absentia after absconding while on court-approved travel abroad for medical treatment.

She is now expected to face extradition proceedings in the United States as Ghana seeks to have her returned to serve her sentence.
