The Private Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) has strongly condemned the recent attack on Mr. Samuel Addo, a journalist with the Class Media Group, describing the incident as a serious threat to press freedom and democratic governance.

Mr. Addo was reportedly assaulted while performing his professional duties, an act PRINPAG says is unacceptable and a clear violation of Article 162 of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution, which guarantees freedom and independence of the media.

In a statement signed by its President, PRINPAG called on the Ghana Police Service and the Ministry of the Interior to immediately launch a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation into the incident. The Association stressed that the perpetrators must be identified and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

According to PRINPAG, attacks on journalists not only endanger individual media practitioners but also undermine the democratic principles upon which Ghana is founded. The Association emphasized that journalists must be allowed to work without fear, intimidation, or violence.

PRINPAG further urged the public and security agencies to respect and protect journalists, acknowledging their critical role in informing the public and holding leaders accountable.

The Association expressed solidarity with Mr. Addo and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights, safety, and independence of journalists across the country.
