The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has expressed renewed concern over what it describes as the growing weaponisation of electronic communications laws against media practitioners in the country.

At its 3rd Annual Dinner Night held in Accra on Monday, December 23, several journalists shared accounts of arrests, interrogations, and legal actions linked to online publications and social media commentary arising directly from their professional work.

The GJA reiterated its long-standing position that while ethical and responsible journalism is non-negotiable, regulatory frameworks must not erode constitutional protections for press freedom.

The association warned that the increasing application of electronic communications laws to media work risks creating a climate of fear that could undermine investigative journalism and public interest reporting.

The event brought together journalists, lawmakers, and other key stakeholders, providing a platform for candid discussions on the challenges facing the media in the digital age.
