President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have donated 50,000 Ghana cedis to the family of the late legendary highlife musician Daddy Lumba.

The donation was made during the final funeral rites at Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday, December 13.

The funeral has drawn thousands of fans, who began arriving early to pay tribute to the celebrated musician. The atmosphere is a mix of mourning and celebration, with devotees singing and dancing to Daddy Lumba’s timeless songs. Security has been heightened at the venue to ensure the safety of attendees.

Notable dignitaries in attendance include NDC National Chairman Aseidu Nketiah, Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Regional NDC Chairman Augustus Andrews Nana Kwasi, and other party officials.

Musician Nana Acheampong also performed live, energising the crowd with a band performance in honour of Daddy Lumba’s legacy.

The burial follows a decisive ruling by the Accra High Court, which cleared the way for the funeral after Lumba’s maternal family failed to meet the GH₵2 million required to sustain an injunction blocking the release of the musician’s body.

Lawyers described the ruling as a moment of relief and unity, urging Ghanaians to pay their last respects to the national icon.

Daddy Lumba, widely regarded as one of Ghana’s greatest musicians, leaves behind a rich legacy that continues to inspire generations. Today’s funeral marks the closure of a long-standing dispute and allows fans and family to bid farewell to a cherished cultural figure.
