A Plus petitions Speaker for removal of Abena Osei Asare as PAC Chair

The Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has written to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, requesting the removal of Abena Osei Asare as Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

In a letter to the Speaker dated Monday, November 3, the MP said his request was intended to safeguard the integrity and dignity of Parliament, particularly the committee responsible for ensuring accountability in the management of public funds.

According to him, the issues currently before the Public Accounts Committee occurred during the period when Abena Osei Asare served as Deputy Minister of Finance, making her position as PAC Chair a conflict of interest.

“She cannot now turn around to demand answers from newly appointed officials on issues that happened under her own watch,” A Plus stated, describing the situation as “not just hypocrisy, but an insult to the intelligence of the Ghanaian people.”

He further argued that individuals who presided over financial irregularities should not be allowed to sit in judgment over them, insisting that the leadership of the committee must reflect impartiality and integrity.
