The Accra High Court has ordered the remand of the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, into police custody after he failed to comply with his bail conditions.

The court revoked his bail after it was established that he did not surrender his passport as directed, a key requirement tied to his release in an ongoing criminal case.

Abronye DC was absent when the ruling was delivered, a development that has further raised concerns surrounding his compliance with court directives.

The outspoken NPP official is currently standing trial on charges of publication of false news and offensive conduct conducive to the breach of the peace. The charges stem from alleged comments he made concerning a Circuit Court judge.

He was initially remanded following his arraignment but was later granted bail under strict conditions, including the deposit of his passport with the court. However, his failure to meet this requirement led to the court’s decision to revoke the bail.

Despite the latest development, the substantive case continues before the Circuit Court, where proceedings on the false publication charges are ongoing.

In reaction to the ruling, Abronye DC has expressed surprise at the judge’s decision, though he is yet to fully address the issue of non-compliance with the bail terms.
