Mining Service Firms Rally Behind Heath Goldfields in Prestea

Local mining service providers operating in the Bogoso-Prestea enclave have declared strong support for Heath Goldfields Limited (HGL), rejecting recent calls for the company’s removal as operator of the Bogoso-Prestea Mine.

The group, known as the Local Companies in Mining Services (LOCOMS), said in a statement that claims of underperformance by HGL are unfounded. According to the contractors, the company is currently working to rebuild and stabilize the mine following a prolonged shutdown, and early signs of progress are evident.

LOCOMS emphasized that their position is based on direct operational experience, contrasting current conditions with those under previous operators. They cited past challenges including delayed payments, limited local participation, and instability that negatively affected businesses and livelihoods.

The group noted that Heath Goldfields has begun settling outstanding debts and introduced structured payment systems that are being honored. These measures, they said, demonstrate accountability and renewed partnership with local contractors.

They warned that any disruption to the company’s operations could jeopardize jobs and economic activity in the area, as many livelihoods depend on mining-related services.

LOCOMS therefore urged government, host communities, and stakeholders to support HGL and focus on constructive engagement to ensure long-term benefits for the region.
