President John Dramani Mahama has engaged Ghana’s private sector in a strategic Presidential Dialogue, calling for bold partnerships to accelerate economic growth and national development.

Addressing business leaders and industry stakeholders, the President underscored the importance of collaboration between government and corporate Ghana in repositioning the country as a leading economic force in the sub-region.

“We must work to make Ghana West Africa’s production hub,” the President emphasised, urging businesses to leverage the country’s hosting of the African Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat to expand trade, industrialisation and regional competitiveness.

He noted that Ghana’s role as host of the continental trade body places the nation at a strategic advantage, offering local industries unprecedented access to broader African markets. According to President Mahama, strengthening production capacity, improving export competitiveness and fostering innovation are key pillars in realising this vision.

The Presidential Dialogue formed part of a broader effort to deepen public-private collaboration, with discussions focusing on investment, job creation, infrastructure development and policy stability.

Call for Sustainable Sports Investment

Turning to sports development, President Mahama stressed the need for sustainable and structured funding mechanisms to support Ghana’s sporting ambitions.

“No country achieves sporting excellence without deliberate funding systems. I invite corporate Ghana to view this not as charity but as a partnership for national development,” he noted, encouraging strong private sector backing for the Ghana Sports Fund.

The President highlighted sports as a powerful tool for youth development, national unity and international recognition, adding that a well-resourced sports sector can generate employment and stimulate economic activity.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive, assuring the private sector of government’s readiness to listen, collaborate and implement reforms that drive inclusive growth.

The engagement marks a renewed push to align Ghana’s economic and social development agenda with the innovation, capital and expertise of the private sector, as the country seeks to consolidate its position as a regional leader in trade, industry and sports excellence.
