President John Mahama has directed the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) to investigate allegations of impropriety in the award of overseas scholarships.

The directive was disclosed by the Minister in charge of Government Communications, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, who said the President’s action followed a radio discussion on Sompa FM in which claims were made that money had been paid to secure a foreign scholarship.

According to the Minister, the allegation was made by Mr. Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, a former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme, during a Twi-language programme that has since generated widespread public interest.

Mr. Ofosu Kwakye said the President views the allegation as serious and of grave public concern, especially in light of the government’s stated commitment to transparency, integrity, and fairness in access to educational opportunities.

In a formal directive to the NIB, President Mahama instructed the bureau to immediately investigate the matter, establish the factual basis of the claims, identify any individuals involved, and determine the truthfulness of the allegations.

“The Bureau has also been directed to submit its findings to the President for consideration and any appropriate action that may arise,” the directive stated.

The order was contained in a letter dated 3rd February 2026, signed by the Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama, and addressed to the Director-General of the National Investigation Bureau.
