Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, has confirmed that he has proceeded on a 10-day leave of absence to focus on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary in the Ayawaso East constituency.

Speaking in an interview on Citi FM on Sunday, January 25, Mr Baba Jamal dismissed calls for him to resign from his diplomatic post, insisting that his decision to contest the primary does not conflict with his official duties.

According to him, he will only step down from his position as High Commissioner if he emerges victorious in the parliamentary election.

Mr Baba Jamal is one of six aspirants who have picked nomination forms to contest the NDC primary scheduled for February 7, ahead of the March 3 by-election.

The by-election became necessary following the death of the sitting Member of Parliament, Mahama Naser Toure.

The former Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development appealed to party delegates to consider his experience and leadership qualities, expressing confidence in his ability to deliver development and effective representation to the people of Ayawaso East.
