President John Dramani Mahama has assured Ghanaians that the country is firmly on the path to recovery after a year of economic and social reforms, declaring that Ghana is “rising again.”

In his New Year’s message to the nation on January 1, 2026, President Mahama said his administration inherited a nation in deep distress, marked by a struggling economy, high unemployment, deteriorating infrastructure, and declining public confidence.

According to the President, many analysts believed it would take a generation for Ghana to recover. However, he said his government trusted in the resilience of the Ghanaian people and pursued bold reforms to reverse the downturn.

President Mahama highlighted significant economic gains over the past 12 months, including a sharp decline in inflation from over 23 percent at the end of 2024 to a projected single-digit rate of about 5 percent by the close of 2025.

He also pointed to relative currency stability, noting that Ghana is on track to be ranked among the world’s best-performing currencies in 2025, a development he said reflects growing confidence in the economy.

The President said economic growth is gaining momentum, opening new opportunities for young people and improving the overall business climate.

Calling for unity and optimism, President Mahama urged citizens to remain hopeful as the nation continues its recovery journey in the new year.
