The Volta Regional Police Command has identified all nine victims injured during Friday morning’s shooting incident at the Ho Central Mosque, as investigations continue into the violent clash between two feuding Muslim factions.

The victims, who are currently receiving medical treatment, were named as Yusuf Hamani, 30; Ibrahim Awudu, 25; Abdul Osaka, 28; Ibrahim Asadoe, 22; Lukman Maman, 29; Alhassan Shaba, 22; Yakubo Ibrahim, 24; Seidu Raffle, 24; and Kassim Basbiru, 23.

Speaking a day after the incident, Chief Inspector Francis Gomado told Graphic Online’s Alberto Mario Noretti that all the injured persons had been identified and were responding to treatment.

He explained that the violence erupted when one faction attempted to change the locks to the mosque, which had been closed for some time, triggering a confrontation over access and control.

Chief Inspector Gomado said 10 suspects had been arrested, while others escaped in a pick-up vehicle used by the attackers. He noted that all police checkpoints in the region had been alerted to watch out for suspicious vehicles and occupants.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Volta Regional Police Commander, ACP Samuel Okunor, has met with leaders of the rival factions and cautioned them against further violence.

Police say calm has been fully restored at Sabong-Zango, with officers maintaining a strong presence to ensure sustained peace.
