Veteran Ghanaian actor and Founder of the Ghana Platinum Excellence Award, Nii Saka Brown, has officially launched a new national awards scheme to recognise companies and institutions that have demonstrated resilience, longevity, and outstanding contributions to Ghana’s socio-economic development.

The launch ceremony, held at De’lish Restaurant on the campus of the University of Ghana, brought together government officials, corporate executives, media practitioners, and invited guests to unveil what organisers describe as a prestigious platform dedicated to celebrating organisations that have remained relevant and impactful for more than two decades.

The event was hosted by renowned media personality Sokoo Hemaa, born Melody Kukua Ibrahim, who served as the Master of Ceremonies.

Delivering the keynote address, Nii Saka Brown said the Ghana Platinum Excellence Award was established to celebrate institutions whose vision, leadership, consistency, and resilience have significantly shaped Ghana’s economic and social development over the years.

He observed that while start-ups and emerging businesses often receive widespread recognition, many long-established organisations whose contributions have helped build the nation’s economy rarely receive the honour they deserve.

“Companies that survive decades do more than conduct business—they create jobs, build communities, support families, inspire entrepreneurs, and contribute immensely to national development. The Ghana Platinum Excellence Award was therefore conceived to honour these remarkable institutions and preserve their stories for future generations,” he stated.

According to him, the awards programme will recognise organisations that have demonstrated longevity and sustained impact while promoting business excellence, good corporate governance, institutional continuity, and the preservation of Ghana’s corporate and industrial heritage.

He emphasised that the initiative is not simply about identifying the oldest companies but about recognising institutions whose enduring legacies continue to drive Ghana’s growth and development.

Nii Saka Brown expressed confidence that the Ghana Platinum Excellence Award would grow into one of the country’s most respected national recognition platforms, inspiring businesses to focus on building lasting institutions rather than pursuing short-term success.

He also appealed to government agencies, corporate organisations, development partners, sponsors, and the media to support the initiative and help showcase the inspiring stories of institutions that have contributed immensely to Ghana’s progress.

“Today we officially begin a movement to celebrate legacy, inspire longevity, and honour the institutions that continue to build Ghana,” he declared.

Also addressing the gathering, Chief Executive Officer of De’lish Restaurant, Yaw Sakyi, described the initiative as timely and visionary, noting that companies that have remained operational for more than 20 years deserve national recognition for their resilience, innovation, and contribution to the country’s economy.

He said the Ghana Platinum Excellence Award would not only celebrate excellence but also promote institutional continuity, strengthen corporate leadership, and preserve Ghana’s rich corporate and economic heritage for future generations.

The Ghana Platinum Excellence Award is expected to become an annual national event dedicated to honouring institutions that have stood the test of time while encouraging businesses across the country to build sustainable legacies that contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s long-term development.
