A family member of the wife of former New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Klottey Korle constituency, Valentino Nii Noi Nortey, has alleged that he stabbed his wife multiple times after she asked for a divorce.

According to the spokesperson of the wife’s family, David Gyapanin, the incident occurred at the couple’s residence in Pennsylvania in the United States following a disagreement between the two.

Speaking to 3News, Mr Gyapanin stated that tensions escalated after the woman expressed her intention to end the marriage, a decision he claimed Mr Nortey strongly opposed.

He alleged that during the confrontation, Mr Nortey threatened to either kill himself or his wife.

“He said he would either kill himself or kill her,” Mr Gyapanin narrated.

The family spokesperson further alleged that Mr Nortey went downstairs during the argument, allowing the woman to lock herself inside a room. However, he reportedly returned armed with a knife, forced his way into the room, and attacked her.

“He attempted to stab her in the neck, but she raised her hands to protect herself. He then stabbed her several times in the rib area and stomach,” he said.

According to the family, the victim was only permitted to leave the house to seek medical care after assuring her husband that she would not press charges. She was rushed to hospital, underwent surgery, and is currently in stable condition.

The family expressed shock at the incident and questioned the mental condition of the former parliamentary candidate.

“We are struggling to understand why someone would want to take a woman’s life simply because she wants to leave a marriage,” Mr Gyapanin said.

He disclosed that the couple’s five children have since been separated and are currently being cared for by extended family members.

The wife’s family says it is praying for justice as investigations continue into the matter.

Meanwhile, the family of Valentino Nii Noi Nortey has not issued any official statement regarding the allegations.
