Valentino Nii Noi Nortey, a former parliamentary candidate of Ghana’s ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been remanded into custody in the United States after allegedly stabbing his wife during a violent domestic dispute.

The 41-year-old politician was arrested by the Lower Paxton Township Police Department in Pennsylvania following an incident that occurred on the morning of Saturday, January 17, 2026.
According to police, officers responded to a distress call at a residence along Mayfair Drive in Harrisburg at approximately 10:00 a.m., where they found a woman suffering from multiple stab wounds. Emergency responders transported the victim to a local hospital for urgent medical treatment.
In an official statement released on Monday, authorities confirmed that the woman remains in stable condition. Police emphasized that the attack was an isolated domestic incident and posed no danger to the general public.
Investigators spent several hours at the residence collecting forensic evidence before Mr. Nortey was taken into custody.
Court documents indicate that the former NPP parliamentary aspirant has been charged with Criminal Attempt – Homicide, Possession of an Instrument of Crime with Intent to Use, and Tampering with or Fabricating Physical Evidence.
During his arraignment before Magisterial District Judge David Judy, bail was denied due to the seriousness of the charges and the circumstances surrounding the case.
Mr. Nortey is currently being held at the Dauphin County Prison and is expected to appear in court again on January 26, 2026, for a preliminary hearing.
