Accra Reset Gains Global Spotlight as John Mahama Hosts High-Level Davos Meeting

Ghana’s flagship development initiative, the Accra Reset, will take centre stage at the 2026 World Economic Forum as President John Dramani Mahama co-hosts a strategic side event alongside former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The gathering, known as The Davos Convening, is expected to bring together influential political and economic leaders on January 22, with discussions focused on redefining global cooperation between Africa and the wider international community.

A statement from the Presidency said the initiative has attracted strong momentum since its launch at the UN General Assembly last year, describing it as one of the most ambitious African-led reform agendas in recent times.

Officials noted that the Accra Reset is fast becoming a unifying framework for addressing long-standing development gaps while promoting home-grown solutions across the continent.

During the forum, President Mahama and his partners will seek to expand the initiative’s global reach, forge practical partnerships and highlight the role of Africa and the Global South in shaping international policy responses.

Launched in late 2025, the Accra Reset aims to reform global systems in health and development by promoting sovereignty, shared value and sustainable financing models. While health remains the initial focus, the framework is expected to extend into broader development sectors.

Government sources say the initiative reflects a growing confidence in Africa’s capacity to lead global transformation through collaboration, innovation and strategic independence.
