Accra High Court Rejects Chairman Wontumi’s Bid to Unfreeze Company Account

The Accra High Court has dismissed an application by Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, seeking to lift a freezing order placed on one of his company’s bank accounts.

The application challenged the Financial Intelligence Centre’s (FIC) decision to freeze the bank account of Paradise Insurance. However, the court refused the request, effectively maintaining the restriction on the account. The case has subsequently been adjourned sine die.

Chairman Wontumi had argued that the freezing order was unjustified and sought the court’s intervention to overturn it. The court, however, found no sufficient basis to grant the reliefs being sought at this stage of the proceedings.

The freeze forms part of broader investigations into alleged financial irregularities involving Chairman Wontumi and entities linked to him. The matter remains pending as investigations and related legal processes continue.
