The Ministry of Government Communications has clarified that the government has not received any proposal or directive to eliminate the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). Minister Felix Ofosu Kwakye made the clarification in a GHOne TV interview, describing public debates around the office as normal civic engagement.

He noted that while citizens may freely express their views on the performance or relevance of public institutions, decisions regarding the OSP’s future remain the exclusive prerogative of the President.

Mr. Ofosu Kwakye stressed that dismantling the office would not be a simple political decision but a legal one. “Since the OSP was established by statute, any action to alter its existence would require proper legal channels and parliamentary oversight,” he said.

He added that, to date, President Akufo-Addo has given no indication of contemplating the dissolution of the anti-corruption office. He concluded by reaffirming the government’s respect for public discourse, even on sensitive governance matters.
