A former employee of Domod Aluminium Limited, Isaac Oheneba Asare, has filed a suit against the company in an Accra Circuit Court, seeking compensation of GH¢61,113.60 for injuries sustained while on duty.
Mr Asare, described as a diligent worker and resident of Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region, has taken his case to court against his former employer, Domod Aluminium Ltd, a well-known and reputable brand that manufactures and sells aluminium products in Ghana.
In a statement of claim filed by his counsel, Nyahe Law Consult of Community 17, Lashibi, Mr Asare is seeking an order compelling Domod Aluminium Limited to pay him the sum of GH¢61,113.60, being compensation assessed and confirmed by the Accra Metro Labour Officer in February 2025.
According to court documents, he worked diligently until 24 July 2023, when he suffered a serious industrial accident while operating machinery at the company’s factory on Abossey Okai Road in Accra’s South Industrial Area.
The statement of claim states that Mr Asare was injured while spinning aluminium sheets on a lathe machine, leading to serious bodily harm that necessitated extended hospitalisation at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.

Following his discharge, Mr Asare reported the incident to the Accra Metropolitan Labour Office, as mandated by the Workmen’s Compensation Act, 1987 (PNDCL 187).
The Labour Office, after reviewing the case and the medical reports, issued a letter dated 6 February 2025 holding Domod Aluminium Limited liable and directing it to pay a lump-sum compensation of GH¢61,113.60 to the injured worker.
The plaintiff alleges that officials of Domod Aluminium Limited visited the Metro Labour Office following the issuance of the directive and verbally assured compliance with the order. However, nearly nine months later, the company is accused of failing or refusing to make any payment to him.
Mr Asare further maintained that all his personal efforts, including those made through his lawyers, to recover the compensation have been unsuccessful.
He accused the company of abusing its corporate power to avoid its legal responsibilities under the compensation law.
According to the plaintiff, the injury has rendered him incapacitated and unemployed since July 2023, significantly impacting his livelihood and ability to care for his family.
The plaintiff, therefore, requests the court to order Domod Aluminium Limited to pay the assessed compensation of GH¢61,113.60, together with interest on the said amount at the prevailing commercial bank rate from the date of the Labour Officer’s directive.
He is also requesting the payment of costs, including legal fees, and any additional relief the court may deem fair and just.
The Accra Circuit Court is yet to set a date, which is expected to be fixed for hearing in the coming weeks.
