The Senior Staff Union (SSU) and Junior Staff Union (JSU) of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will stage a nationwide demonstration on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, in protest against the proposed private sector participation (PSP) in the company.

The unions said the peaceful demonstration would be held across all ECG operational regions and would culminate in the presentation of a petition to President John Dramani Mahama.
In a directive signed by the national chairpersons of the SSU and JSU, Christopher Apawu and Lucky Larry Agboka respectively, the unions instructed divisional and branch leaders to mobilise members for the exercise.
The petition will be presented to regional ministers in the various operational regions for onward submission and attention from the President.
The demonstration is scheduled to begin at 8:00am and end at 4:00pm.
In Accra, workers will assemble at the forecourt of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), while those in Kumasi will gather at the ECG Regional Office at the Airport Roundabout.
Workers in the other regions are expected to assemble at their respective ECG regional offices, with the routes for the demonstrations to be announced later.
The unions said participants would return to their assembly points after the demonstration for a briefing before dispersing.
The nationwide protest forms part of a broader course of action announced by the unions earlier this month in opposition to the proposed PSP arrangement.
The unions said members would also continue wearing red armbands, which formed part of the initial phase of their action, until another phase is announced.
The Public Utility Workers Union (PUWU), which is convening the demonstration, will lead the exercise.
The unions said PUWU had formally notified the Inspector General of Police of its intention to organise the demonstration in accordance with Section 1(2) of the Public Order Act, 1994 (Act 491).
Committees will be established at the national and regional levels to coordinate the exercise, with further details expected to be communicated through the relevant committees.
