The Asokwa Circuit Court in Kumasi has convicted fake nurse Evelyn Ataa Amankwah and her accomplice, Collins Agyemang Badu, for impersonating staff of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and illegally providing medical services to unsuspecting members of the public.

The two pleaded guilty to all charges and were each fined 1,000 penalty units, bringing the total fine imposed by the court to GH₵24,000.

The judgment was delivered on Monday, July 27, 2026, by Asokwa Circuit Court Two, presided over by Her Honour Vida Achiaa Yeboah.

Fake KATH Identity Cards

According to the prosecution, led by ASP Stephen Ofori, the fraudulent scheme began in June 2026 when Evelyn Ataa Amankwah, a 33-year-old private nurse residing at Brofoyedu, approached a printing press operator in Adum, Kumasi, and paid GH₵200 to produce fake Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital identity cards.

The forged IDs identified Amankwah as a Disease Control Officer, while her accomplice, 25-year-old student nurse Collins Agyemang Badu, who resides at Ampabame, was falsely identified as an Enrolled Nurse.

Illegal Medical Services

Armed with the forged identification cards, the duo visited shops in Asokwa, Kumasi, on June 23, 2026, where they introduced themselves as public health officials from KATH.

They proceeded to offer unauthorized medical services to traders and members of the public while distributing suspected illicit drugs, vaccines, and other medications.

Their operation was interrupted after a public health officer at KATH became suspicious and alerted the hospital’s security team.

The security personnel swiftly arrested the pair and handed them over to the police for further investigations.

Evidence and Charges

During investigations, police recovered the fake KATH identity cards, vaccines, and assorted medicines from the suspects.

The prosecution told the court that both accused persons admitted their involvement in caution statements.

Amankwah and Badu were charged with conspiracy to commit forgery, forgery of documents, and practising medicine without registration, contrary to the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), and the Health Professions Regulatory Bodies Act, 2013 (Act 857).

The two pleaded guilty with explanation and were convicted on their own plea.

Sentencing

In addition to the fines, the court sentenced Evelyn Ataa Amankwah to one day in prison. However, the custodial sentence was suspended after the court took into consideration her pregnancy.

The conviction brings an end to the illegal operation that exposed unsuspecting traders in Kumasi to unauthorized medical treatment under the guise of a legitimate KATH public health exercise.
