President John Dramani Mahama has cut the sod for the construction of a modern 24-Hour Economy Market at Assin Bereku in the Assin North District of the Central Region, marking a significant milestone in the Government’s agenda to expand trade, create jobs, and stimulate economic growth.

The market project forms part of the Government’s ambitious nationwide programme to construct 261 modern markets across all districts to improve commercial infrastructure and support local businesses.

The state-of-the-art facility will feature a day-care centre, clinic, cold storage facilities, warehouses, a lorry station, Police and Fire Service posts, a restaurant, pharmacy, improved sanitation systems, market management offices, and 24-hour banking services. These amenities are expected to provide traders with a safe, efficient, and business-friendly environment while promoting round-the-clock economic activity.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, President Mahama said the project would transform Assin Bereku into a major commercial hub, attract investment, and improve the livelihoods of residents and surrounding communities.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to accelerating national development through strategic investments in infrastructure, reducing poverty, and creating sustainable opportunities for Ghanaians.

“The 24-Hour Economy Market is not just a trading centre but a catalyst for economic transformation. It will create employment, enhance productivity, and support our vision of a resilient and inclusive economy,” the President stated.

The project is expected to boost local commerce, strengthen market access for farmers and traders, and contribute to the Government’s broader objective of promoting economic growth through its flagship 24-Hour Economy policy.
