An Accra High Court has adjourned proceedings in the extradition case involving Ghanaian socialite Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, to June 11, 2026, for a ruling on a key motion filed by his legal team.

The adjournment was made on June 2, 2026, after the court heard arguments from counsel representing Kumi, who appeared in court alongside his spouse and legal team.
Lawyers for the socialite moved a motion seeking leave to file a supplementary affidavit in support of his application challenging the extradition process. The application forms part of an ongoing certiorari action aimed at overturning a decision by the Gbese District Court, which previously granted authorization for his extradition to the United States.
Kumi is wanted by US authorities in connection with allegations of wire fraud and money laundering. American prosecutors allege that he was linked to a romance scam network accused of defrauding elderly victims of more than $8 million.
His legal team is contesting the basis of the extradition proceedings and is seeking to quash the lower court’s ruling, arguing that the process should not proceed as currently constituted. Counsel further urged the High Court to consider the evidence already on record and the broader circumstances of the case before delivering its decision.
Following the submissions, the High Court adjourned the matter to June 11, 2026, when it is expected to rule on the motion and determine the next steps in the extradition process. The outcome is expected to have significant implications for whether the extradition proceedings continue or are halted.
