Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, has reportedly clarified the circumstances surrounding his arrest in the Netherlands, stating that he is being detained over alleged money laundering—not fraud or romance scam allegations widely circulating in the media.

According to information shared with media personality Blakk Rasta, the MP has been in contact with several individuals while in detention over the past week. One of those conversations was with Blakk Rasta, during which the legislator reportedly insisted that claims linking him to romance scams or fraud are inaccurate.

Frimpong is said to have assured Blakk Rasta that the case against him is strictly related to money laundering investigations and expressed confidence that he will soon be released.

“He told me everything will be fine and that he will be out soon,” Blakk Rasta reportedly revealed.

Background to the Arrest

Earlier reports indicated that the MP had been arrested in the Netherlands as part of an international probe into alleged financial crimes. Initial speculation suggested possible links to a large-scale scheme involving romance scams and fraud estimated at around $32 million, with alleged connections to investigations by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

However, no official charges have been publicly confirmed, and details surrounding the exact basis of his detention remain unclear.

Official Response from His Team

The MP had previously broken his silence through his Deputy Communications Officer, Nana Poku, who stated that he had spoken directly with Frimpong while in custody.

Speaking on Asempa FM in an interview monitored by journalist Andre Mustapha Nii Okai Inusah, Nana Poku indicated that the MP had not been formally informed of the reasons for his arrest at the time.

“I have personally spoken to the MP. He is still under arrest and has not been told why he was picked up. He wants his constituents to remain calm and assured them that everything will be fine,” he said.

Calls for Calm Amid Public Concern

The case has sparked widespread discussion both in Ghana and internationally, with many calling for transparency and due process. While speculation continues, Frimpong’s latest remarks to Blakk Rasta appear aimed at correcting what he describes as misinformation about the nature of the allegations.

Authorities in both Ghana and the Netherlands are yet to issue detailed official statements, leaving many aspects of the case unresolved as investigations continue.
