Daddy Lumba’s Family Breaks Silence on Confusion Over Funeral Plans and Widow’s Legitimacy

The family of the late Ghanaian highlife legend, Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, widely celebrated as Daddy Lumba, has stepped forward to address what it calls misleading narratives surrounding the musician’s funeral preparations and the public conversation about his widow, Mrs. Akosua Serwah Fosuh.

According to the family, a funeral poster that has gone viral on social media was not sanctioned by Mrs. Fosuh and should never have been associated with the official arrangements. The poster features her name alongside another individual under the label “widow,” a description the family says is inaccurate and was crafted with the inclusion of unrelated family names merely “for cosmetic purposes.” They are therefore asking the public to treat the poster as entirely fake.

The statement also pushed back against comments made by entertainment personality Mr. Kofi Owusu, who cast doubt on the validity of Mrs. Fosuh’s marriage certificate from Germany, controversially describing it as an “Ashtown document.” The family criticised the comments as misinformed and malicious, noting that the certificate is legally binding under German law and respected internationally.

In defending their appointed spokesperson, Evangelist Papa Shee—known privately as Nana Yaw Akosah—the family emphasised that he has been a trusted associate of Daddy Lumba for years and has full authority to represent the family’s interests publicly. Any suggestions questioning his legitimacy, they said, are unfounded.

Touching on the recent ruling delivered by Her Ladyship Justice Dorinda Smith Arthur, the family expressed respect for the court but admitted they disagree with certain aspects of the decision. They indicated their intention to seek further legal redress in order to uphold the dignity of the late musician’s widow and children.

The family concluded by urging Ghanaians, particularly those living in Germany, to remain confident in the robustness of German marriage documentation, which they referred to metaphorically as “the Mercedes-Benz of marriage certificates.” They reaffirmed their commitment to celebrating and protecting Daddy Lumba’s legacy with honesty and dignity.
