Four years is enough for serious leaders – Akim Swedru MP Kennedy Osei Nyarko

Akim Swedru MP Kennedy Osei Nyarko has said there’s no need to extend presidential terms in Ghana, arguing that the current system is sufficient if leaders are disciplined and focused.

In a social media post, the legislator dismissed suggestions that extending presidential mandates could solve the country’s development challenges, insisting that leadership, not tenure, determines progress.

“I agree that Ghana doesn’t need a longer presidential term. America and other thriving democracies have developed with two terms of four years,” he stated.

Nyarko emphasized that the nation’s real problem lies in inefficiency and corruption, not in the length of time presidents are given to govern.

“Stop the corruption, cut the waste, increase productivity, and respect time. We don’t need longer presidential terms to develop our country,” he asserted.

He also urged Ghanaians to look beyond blaming politicians, pointing out that corruption is deeply rooted across different levels of society.

“We always point fingers at politicians as the most corrupt, meanwhile, all the corrupt activities perpetuated in this country are done by the back drivers. Until we change from this awkward behavior, we will continue to lament,” he said.

Nyarko concluded by stressing that genuine leadership requires focus and integrity, not extended rule.

“Every four years, we change governments without seeing significant change in our lives. Four years is enough for any serious leader who wants to make an impact to do so,” he added.
