Ticket Chaos Leaves Hundreds of Ghana Fans Stranded Outside World Cup Clash

Hundreds of football fans believed to be Ghanaians were left stranded outside Lincoln Financial Field in the United States on Saturday, June 27, after a reported ticketing mix-up denied them entry to Ghana’s final Group L match against Croatia at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to a report by The Atlantic, many of the supporters had travelled from Accra specifically to cheer on the Black Stars but were left disappointed when tickets they had expected to receive never arrived.

The confusion reportedly stemmed from the distribution of tickets allocated to a large supporters’ group. While some fans anticipated that a group representative would deliver the tickets at the stadium before kickoff, others alleged that the tickets may have been diverted and sold on the secondary market instead.

As frustration mounted outside the venue, police officers were deployed around one of the stadium gates to maintain order.

Although there were a few tense exchanges between some supporters and law enforcement officers, the majority of the fans remained calm, making phone calls and desperately seeking alternative ways to gain entry before the match began.

Their efforts ultimately proved unsuccessful. About 30 minutes into the game, police cleared the area outside the entrance and directed the stranded supporters toward nearby parking areas, effectively ending their hopes of watching the match live.

The ticketing chaos cast a shadow over Ghana’s matchday experience as the Black Stars suffered a 2-1 defeat to Croatia in their final Group L fixture.

Despite the loss, Ghana secured qualification to the Round of 32, where the Black Stars will face Colombia on July 4 in a bid to keep their World Cup campaign alive.

The incident has sparked concerns over the management and distribution of match tickets for Ghanaian supporters, with many fans expected to demand answers over the circumstances that left hundreds locked out of one of the team’s most important matches of the tournament.
