Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU) made a prediction about the 2020 general election stating that current President and New Patriotic Party Presidential candidate Nana Akufo-Addo will defeat former president John Mahama to retain his seat at the presidency in December.
The renowned economic and financial Institute might be right with their prediction base on their entitlement to their opinion. But the reasons gave,as to why Mahama will lose the general election is absorbed. The NPP is not a better custodian of the economy. The economy growth was due to the huge investment in Ghana’s oil sector by the erstwhile Mahama administration. And to make things more clear, Ghana’s current economic growth which is largely oil-driven does not reflect in the lives of many Ghanaians. View pictures in App save up to 80% data.
The EIU’s prediction is not sacrosanct or proven facts. Infact they have had many predictions wrong, even though their previous predictions have come to pass. The 2008 general election which they predicted win for Nana Akufo-Addo,but Mills won. They predicted victories for US Hillary Clinton and Atiku of Nigeria but both lost to Donald Trump and Buhari respectively.
The NPP still hold Ghanaians accountable for failed promises, job creation and industrialisation. Over the last two years the living conditions of the vast majority of Ghanaians have deteriorated due to a high and unbearable costs of living occasioned by steep increment in the fuel prices, commodity prices and hefty taxes. Reports coming in is that more than half of Ghanaians surveyed in Ghana election poll do not think President Nana Akufo-Addo has fulfilled his promises well enough to deserve re-election as president of Ghana in the 2020 December presidential election.
The battle is far from over,I wouldn’t loose focus if I am Nana Akufo-Addo. Let Ghanaians decide who stays or goes.
