Methodist Church Head Blesses NDC Running Mate – Tells Her To Focus On Poor & Needy

The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, has blessed the running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, and advise her to burden herself, with issues affecting the poor, the helpless and the marginalized in the Ghanaian society, as she seeks to enter presidency as Vice-President.

Most Reverend Dr. Paul Kwabena Boafo, told Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, that the mandate she was seeking from Ghanaians should be one to lead, as well as be a servant who cares for those who do not count in society and champion their course.

Towards to this end, the Presiding Bishop, asked the running mate of the NDC Flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, to bring her strong Christian values to bear on the negative politics of the country and seek to change the narrative.

Most Reverend Boafo, gave the advice, when Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, attended a thanksgiving service a day after she was outdoored at the University of Professional Studies (UPS) on Monday July 27, 2020 evening.

Family and friends of Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, as well as and members of the NDC, attended the service which took place on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at the Asbury Dunwell Chapel at the Methodist Church Headquarters in Accra.

The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, in his sermon, acknowledged that Christians must get into politics to operate with truth and integrity, as against the politics of insults and violence.

“You are coming in at a time when our politics is bedeviled with all sorts of negative things but as a Christian, don’t go that way”, he cautioned.

He spoke against the lynching of the old helpless woman to death, after being branded a witch for no reason.

The Presiding Bishop advised Prof. Opoku-Agyemang to constantly carry the value of peace along in her political journey, saying “Carry peace, walk with peace, talk about the need for peace and let people know you stand with the God of peace”.

In brief remarks, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, expressed gratitude to God for how far He has brought her, and said she views her new position as an important step God has placed in her path.

“I do not intend to take this step all by myself; I am trusting God as I take this step and asking everyone to come on this journey with me”, she said.

Prayers were said for Prof. Opoku- Agyemang and a bible presented to her to symbolize her acceptance to follow God’s guiding principles in her new position.
